The Ozarks are predominantly characterized by oak and hickory forests, and fox and gray squirrels are both common. The Ozark Mountains in northern Arkansas form one of the most picturesque squirrel hunting areas in the southern United States. Several wildlife management areas in these regions also encompass lots of prime squirrel hunting territory. Good west Arkansas squirrel hunting grounds are available in the Ouachita National Forest. In north Arkansas, excellent hunting is available in the Ozark National Forest.
